In our generation today one of the most talk about issue that many countries are facing is the child soldier or basically child trafficking. Where thousands of children are forcibly recruited, trained for combat and to be a spy while some choose to join up. What do you think why they choose child instead of adults? And what is the reason why some children choose to join up?
Child soldier are Children in the military (defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child as persons under the age of 18) who are associated with military organizations, such as state armed forces and non-state armed groups. Many children are forcibly recruited because they are easy to influence compared to adults. They trained the children for combats and sometimes to be a messenger. While some children initiate because they want to escape poverty. Children who are experiencing poverty are easy target because they are not yet aware and educated about those things. Members of this group often convince the children to join by telling them that they will escape poverty. Example of this is the Marawi incident where the Maute group recruited many children to fight against the government. Researchers in Palestine also found that children exposed to high levels of violence in armed conflict were substantially more likely than other children to exhibit aggression and anti-social behavior. The combined impact of these effects typically includes a high risk of poverty and lasting unemployment in adulthood. Here in our country, which is the Philippines, have created a Law that will protect the children. This is known as Republic Act No. 7610 also known as "Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse Exploitation and Discrimination Act". In the section 2 of this law states that all forms of abuse, neglect, cruelty, exploitation, and discrimination, and other condition prejudicial to their development including child labor and its worst forms; provide sanctions for their commissions and carry out a program for prevention and deterrence of and crisis intervention in situations of child abuse exploitation and discrimination.
We need to stop the child trafficking because it have a great impact to the children and to our economy in the future. The government must address this issue by providing education to children in the Philippines. Also give some seminars to the parents for them to become aware of this issue. As Jose Rizal said that "The Youth is the Hope of our Future"
